(2 Тим. 3, 1‒9). Кто такие имеющие вид благочестия, силы же его отрекшиеся? И кто другие всегда учащиеся и никогда не могущие дойти до познания истины? Первые те, которые держат все внешние порядки, в которых выражается благочестная жизнь; но не имеют столько крепкой воли, чтоб и внутренние свои расположения держать так, как требует истинное благочестие. Идут в храм охотно, и там стоят охотно. Но не делают напряжения, чтоб и умом своим стоять перед Богом неотходно и благоговейно припадать к Нему, а помолившись немного, выпускают бразды правления ума, и он парит, обтекая весь мир. И выходит, что тогда как по внешнему их положению они в храме, по внутреннему состоянию их нет там: остался у них один образ благочестия, а силы его нет. Так и о всем другом разумевай. Вторые это те, которые, вступив в область веры, только и делают, что вопросы изобретают, ― что то, что это, почему так, почему этак. Люди, страждущие пустой пытливостью. За истиною не гонятся, а лишь бы пытать и пытать. И решение нашедши вопросам, недолго останавливаются на нем, а скоро чувствуют нужду приискивать другое решение. И так кружатся день и ночь, пытая и пытая, и никогда вполне не удовлетворяясь допытанным. Иной за удовольствиями гоняется, а они за удовлетворением пытливости своей.
